Sharing Knowledge through Divergent Thinking
In the fall of 2019, I stood before my Early Childhood class and began discussing creativity. I shared knowledge about convergent and divergent thinking and proceeded to ask my students challenging questions. "Does anyone here know what problems the world will face three, five, or 10 years down the road?" The room was silent.
Waubonsee President and Trustees Receive Statewide Recognition
Rebecca Oliver, Chair of the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees, and James K. Michels, P.E., were recognized for their volunteer service by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) at the June 10 ICCTA Annual Convention in Chicago. Oliver was recognized with a 25-Year Trustee Service Award and Michels with a 35-Year Trustee Service Award. Two notable achievements during their tenure include the development and completion of the 2020 College Master Plan and achieving a bond rating of Aa1 by Moody’s Investors Services.
Recent Waubonsee Graduate Named 2022 SkillsUSA National Champion in Automotive Service Technology
Recent Waubonsee Community College graduate, Liam Richardson, of Sugar Grove, was named the 2022 SkillsUSA National Champion in Automotive Service Technology during the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held last month in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sharing Knowledge
The inclusion of the phrase “sharing knowledge” in the updated mission statement for Waubonsee Community College may seem obvious for an institution of higher education. However, that concept means more to us than a traditional view of sharing knowledge through the virtual or physical classroom space. We view sharing knowledge as a mutual exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives where all participants are simultaneously teacher and learner.
Waubonsee Alumnus Earns Chicagoland Transfer Award, Jumpstarts Film Career to Challenge Systemic Racism
Waubonsee Community College alumna Mikayla Manuel, of Aurora, was recently selected as the Chicagoland Transfer Award scholarship recipient. The award includes $12,000 for the 2022-2023 academic year at Columbia College Chicago.

Waubonsee Community College To Host Career Fair on Sugar Grove Campus
Waubonsee Community College will host a Career Fair to attract candidates to apply for more than 70 current staff/faculty job openings. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Academic and Professional Center on the college’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. The event is free and open to the public.
