Hello, and thank you for visiting my faculty web page. :)
My Professional Background
I'm a passionate educator with over twenty years of experience in teaching basic English and education-related courses. My academic journey includes an A.A from Rock Valley College, a B.A. and M.A. in English from Northern Illinois University, and an M.S. in Adult Education and Developmental Education from Walden University. I'm also a TEFL Certified Teacher, which allows me the chance to teach English as a foreign language in other countries, and I hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) in the state of Illinois for English Language Arts and Social Studies for grades 6-12. More specifically, I specialize in teaching English Developmental Education courses at Waubonsee Community College, including ENG 080 and ENG 085. I have also worked in different capacities as a facilitator, a coach, and a psuedo-administrator too.
My Personal Background
On a personal note, I'm the proud mother of a creative and spirited 22-year-old daughter who currently lives in Texas. Unlike me, she's not a fan of formal schooling, but we like to play computer games together online and visit each other when we can. I'm also a first-generation college student, which I believe adds a special significance to my educational achievements. When I have the time and money, I also love to travel to and explore new places. So far my favorite two favorite places I have visited are both in Italy: Vatican City and Florence. Reading and learning are my true passions, and I'm always eager to dive into a good book or discover something new in The Great Courses Lecture Series.
I'm also terminally curious about the world around me, especially when it comes to meeting people from different cultures and countries. This curiosity fuels my teaching and enriches my interactions with everyone I meet. I have an Iraqi family who I have known for over ten years now that mean the world to me, and I am also a volunteer tutor in my spare time. And, just for fun, although I have yet to visit Japan, Godzilla is my all-time favorite monster!
