I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Emporia State University and a Master of Education from Southwestern College. Instead of following the traditional path of going to college after high school, I married and started a family. During this period, I worked in sales and was in managerial roles for two restaurants until I was able to pursue my dream of going to college. My nontraditional path to higher education, has given me insight to the many issues that nontraditional students face.
While working on my master's degree, I helped edit and test an instructional computer book for Apple (Mac) computers, which led me to working in several businesses before pursuing my passion for teaching. I have decades of community college teaching experience, including almost twenty years at Waubonsee Community College. Recently I was selected to be a Faculty Development Coordinator due to my passion for teaching. Service learning is another passion of mine and has been a part of the WEB program since 2008. During this time, students have created 43 websites for non-profits. I am also on the board of two non-profits and am the Assistant Principal of Sunday and Summer School at the American Islamic Association.
I believe in lifelong learning and was awarded a professional teaching certificate, Certificate in Effective College Instruction, by The Association of College and University Educators and the American Council on Education on June 23, 2020. I also earned an ACUE microcredential in Inclusive Teaching for Equitable Learning in August 2021. In addition, I earned the Master of Online Teacher, by The University of Illinois at Springfield in May 2021. I earned the Applying the QM Rubric badge from Quality Matters in August 2021. I completed another professional teaching certificate, Digital Accessibility for Educators, which is also from The University of Illinois at Springfield, in November 2021.
In my spare time, I love gardening, traveling to my beloved Kansas City, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, outings with grandchildren, traveling, and COFFEE ☕☕ time with friends and students!
