President’s Message
Fiscal Year 2023 was a big year for Waubonsee. Long-time President, Dr. Christine Sobek, retired on January 4, 2023, after serving 31 years at Waubonsee and 21 years as President. I was honored and humbled to be selected as the fifth President of the college and began my tenure in this role on January 30, 2023.
In September, we marked the transition in leadership with a week-long Inauguration celebration that included events for students, alumni, employees, retirees, and community members. The theme of this celebration and engagement was, “Waubonsee Together: A New Dawn.” During this time, I took the opportunity to share my thoughts on this new dawn in the college’s history as we work together to shape the future of your community college.
This year, we have shifted to a digital publication. This shift provides you with additional interactive features such as videos and links with more information. Within this publication, you will see highlights of this historical year – highlights of student, alumni, faculty, staff, and institutional milestones and accomplishments. All of these milestones and accomplishments demonstrate our history of excellence and the solid foundation upon which we build our future excellence. As we work together to develop our next Strategic Plan, we have developed our FY2024 Statement of Work. This statement outlines the key priorities for the college during this fiscal year, including our exciting new Career and Technical Education (CTE) Building.
I look forward to serving you and our community in my role as President of your community college, Waubonsee Community College, as we continue to be a valued strategic partner for our community and a welcoming home where all students feel valued as they pursue their educational and career goals.
Dr. Brian Knetl, President
