Jacqueline Chavez-Moreno, Student Receives Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholarship

Sugar Grove – Jacqueline Chavez-Moreno, from Aurora, has been named a 2021 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar. She will receive a $1,250 scholarship.

Chavez-Moreno dreamed of a career in the medical field as a young child, reading a medical dictionary she found at home. As a junior at Aurora East High School, she took a dual-credit medical terminology course. She will be earning her Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing this summer. She plans to transfer to a university to pursue a doctorate degree.

As a first-generation college student, Chavez-Moreno claims, “My parents have made a lot of sacrifices in their lifetime in order for my siblings and I to succeed, that is what continues on pushing me forward through life's tough challenges.”

Chavez-Moreno’s parents were brought here by her grandparents at a young age, in order to pursue a prosperous life in the United States. “My parents did not have access to the opportunities that I do. I want to take all the opportunities I can to succeed.”

Chavez-Moreno dedicates much of her education progress to working with her advisor and success coach. “My advisor and success coach have been there for me throughout my time at Waubonsee.” It is because of the support staff and her family that Chavez-Moreno will not give up on her goal of becoming a doctor.

“I try not to forget the unlimited potential I have, and I hold onto my original goals when things get difficult.,” says Chavez-Moreno.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation partners with Phi Theta Kappa to help deserving students reach their academic goals.
