Waubonsee Community College will host an open house on the Plano Campus for those interested in skilled trade careers and apprenticeship opportunities on Tuesday, April 12 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the community.
Attendees at the open house will learn about high-demand, high-wage careers, meet instructors, and see the latest technology and equipment available at the newly renovated Plano Campus. The open house will feature a special presentation on Women in the Trades at 5 p.m. Waubonsee graduate and professional welder Emily Mutchler will share her experiences as a student and a successful female welder.
The open house will showcase several programs Waubonsee offers, including Computer Aided Design and Drafting, Cybersecurity, Welding, and Fire Sciences. Regional employers and industry leaders will also be available to discuss opportunities in the workforce and the education and experience needed to fill those roles.
“If you are looking for a high-wage career that continues to grow and gets you into the workforce quickly, our Plano Campus is here to serve you. We have employers from across the region reaching out to the college seeking students because they have positions available for skilled labor,” said Ne’Keisha Stepney, Executive Dean for Business, Technology, and Workforce Education.
The Plano Campus is the college’s Innovation and Design Center and home to Waubonsee’s new Cybersecurity Program, Welding Program, and Computer Aided Design and Drafting Program. Here, students can stand out by gaining industry knowledge and hands-on training in some of the most in-demand careers. Classes are taught by knowledgeable instructors who bring extensive field experience into the classroom.
Staff will be available at the open house to answer questions and assist in the enrollment process. There will be giveaways, raffles, food, and refreshments while supplies last. To RSVP for the open house or learn more about Waubonsee’s certificate and degree programs, visit waubonsee.edu/visit.
