A dean at Waubonsee Community College who oversees the college’s health care education programs will lend his insight and expertise to the latest effort to better understand public health in Kane County.

Dr. Jess Toussaint, Dean for Health Professions and Public Service at Waubonsee, has been appointed to the Executive Committee for the Kane County Collaborative Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan.

The county government has tasked the committee with identifying critical health issues in Kane County and creating a plan to address them.

Toussaint said he was suggested to the committee based on his position with the college and his skills and expertise.

He said he intends to contribute to the public health planning effort by leveraging the resources of the college, including its health care students, to promote various community health intervention events, possibly to include, among others, health fairs, blood pressure screenings, diabetes checks and smoking cessation presentations.
