January is the time that many of us strive to live up to New Year’s resolutions or make commitments to enhance our lives in a variety of ways. We have all been affected by the global pandemic in some way and the practice of physical distancing has highlighted the importance of our personal and professional connections. As a result, many of our resolutions and commitments may be focused on creating or renewing connections.

Every year at this time, we are putting the finishing touches on the college’s Annual Report to the Community... 

The stories and information highlighted in the report share progress toward the goals of our Strategic Plan, provide fiscal year financial data, and most importantly celebrate individual and college successes. We hope that through these stories, we can help create and foster personal connections between you, our community members, and Waubonsee Community College, YOUR community college.

This fall, many students have learned what thousands of community college alumni have known for years; community college is an excellent choice! Whether your dream is a certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree or beyond, you can get there from here.

The Waubonsee Workforce and Solutions Council (Council) has a goal of providing individuals and organizations assistance necessary to solve complex problems. Through strategic partnerships, skill, and knowledge enhancement, this Council aims to be a resource for and a think tank to catapult economic, professional, and personal development.

In September and October, we celebrate national Hispanic Heritage Month. We are proud of the many Latinx students who have attended Waubonsee to become leaders in their field and in their community. I am pleased to share a few of their stories.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our community significantly.

Waubonsee Community College has designed two new courses that will benefit our community greatly.

Unprecedented. I feel like almost everything I read anymore has this word somewhere in the first sentence. It’s true. These are unprecedented times for all of us. At Waubonsee Community College we’re very aware of the struggle, not just for us as employees, but especially for our students. In Student Development we are working hard to make sure we can maintain the services students need and want to be successful.

Whether you are a high school senior or a parent returning to school, navigating your funding options to pay for college can be cumbersome as you explore possibilities for education and training. If you plan on attending college starting in fall 2020, now is the time to start exploring ways to pay for college.

Libraries have undergone vast changes throughout history due to innovations in technology and the internet. Libraries have adapted to and embraced new technologies to support communities, while also continuing to provide what we might call more traditional services. 

I sent out the text message to the team after the delivery. “It’s here!”

Very soon my small office of bookshelves and an oversized desk was flooded with six students whom I had been working with day and night, seven days a week, for the previous two months. They each showed their excitement differently...

Then, I reached my hand into a cardboard box and revealed a book, their book, our book.
