Seven Waubonsee Community College students earned awards at the recent Illinois SkillsUSA competition in Springfield, with the college sweeping two automotive categories.
In the collision repair category, Daniel Dwyer, of St. Charles; Humberto Alvarez, of Aurora; and Jose Coronel, of Aurora, finished first, second and third respectively.
Waubonsee swept the automotive refinishing category as well, with Jordan Herrera, of Marengo, taking first place; Andrew Butzow, of Marengo, taking second; and Jose Martinez-Joya, of Carpentersville, finishing third.
Joseph Lemire, of Plano, represented Waubonsee’s CNC program with a second place finish in that category.
Dwyer and Herrera will go on to compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Ky., in June.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
