How Employers Benefit from Community Colleges

As we continue to celebrate Community College Month, now is an excellent time to spotlight how employers can find solutions to their workforce needs by partnering with community colleges.

The Vital Role of Community Colleges to our Economy and Society

April is National Community College Month, a time when we celebrate the positive impact community colleges have on our community and economy. As an Instructor of Business at Waubonsee and having previously taught for over ten years at community colleges in Illinois, I often analyze community colleges' significant role in our community and economy. I am also grateful for how several community colleges have played a large part in my personal story and career.

Women Pursuing Manufacturing Fields

Women’s History Month is the perfect opportunity to honor women who work in the manufacturing field. Women make up 47% of the total workforce but they only represent 30% of the workforce in the manufacturing industry. Women in this field work hard and they are outnumbered, which can be challenging. However, for those who have the passion, the opportunities are endless and the payoff is worth it.

Partnerships Crucial to Shared Success

I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the fifth president of Waubonsee Community College, an organization with a long history of service to and collaboration with a vibrant and thriving community. I have learned a lot in my first month as President, and I have more to learn!

Waubonsee Celebrates Its Employees

What is the first thing that organizations think of when they want to build trust? Do they think of celebrating all their employees? If not, they might be missing out on what Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work, discusses in his book, "A Great Place to Work for All." Bush tells the reader that one of the top ways to build employee trust is by celebrating the small milestones as much as the big wins. This idea of celebrating may not be what first comes to mind, but it is what we all must do to experience and continually cultivate a great place to work.

At the October board meeting, Illinois State Representative Keith R. Wheeler, of the 50th district, recognized Dr. Christine Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, with a special House Resolution 921.

Ask for Help to Increase Your Access to Resources

College is an important decision that we all consider at one point or another in our lives. Some of us decide to attend right out of high school, and others return when our lives present an opportunity to fit it into everyday life. I took both paths and enrolled in a private undergraduate program right out of high school. Two decades later, I returned to school for my master’s degree.

Waubonsee President Receives Prestigious National Award

The Alliance for Innovation and Transformation (AFIT) recognized Dr. Christine J. Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, with the John J. Politi Legacy Award at their recent annual Summer Institute.

Follow Your Passion

Doing what you love and following your passion is sage advice frequently heard during the graduation and back-to-school season. But has anyone ever taken the time to explain how to discover one's life passion when doling out this advice?
