Waubonsee’s Latinx Resource Center Offers Programming to Help “Familias” Navigate College
Waubonsee Community College is home to more than 30% of students who identify as Latinx. As one of the region’s Hispanic Serving Institutions, Waubonsee is committed to helping students reach their educational goals, whatever they may be. This spring, Waubonsee’s Latinx Resource Center (LRC) will host learning events at its Aurora Downtown Campus, located at 18 S. River St., offering families and students the opportunity to enrich their knowledge about the college landscape. All events are free and open to parents of area high school and Waubonsee college students.

Waubonsee alumna Sharkisha Jones, of Aurora, has been teaching lessons and planning curriculum for children in a classroom as long as she can remember. In her current role, Jones partners with the Office of Governor Pritzker in redesigning early learning and care systems with families at the center.
Waubonsee Offers Free Tax Services to Community
Waubonsee Community College, in partnership with Ladder Up, will offer free tax services at the college’s Aurora Downtown Campus, located at 18 S. River Street. The services are available to the community on a walk-in basis.

Waubonsee Board Officially Approves Dr. Brian Knetl as Fifth President of Waubonsee Community College
At its meeting on Dec. 14, the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees officially appointed Dr. Brian Knetl to serve as the college’s fifth president. Last week, the board had announced Dr. Knetl as the final candidate after a nationwide search that spanned the last several months.

At the December 14 board meeting, the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees recognized the leadership of Dr. Christine Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, with a special Resolution.
Waubonsee Board Selects Dr. Brian Knetl as College’s Fifth President
The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Brian Knetl to serve as the college’s fifth president. The board will take official action to appoint Dr. Knetl at its Dec. 14 meeting. The college’s current president, Dr. Christine J. Sobek, is retiring on Jan. 4, 2023, after more than 21 years in the role.
