Finding a College That's the Right Fit

As a kid, going school supply shopping was always something I looked forward to. Picking out a new backpack and lunchbox made me a happy girl. The night before school started, I was a ball of nervous, excited energy. The start of a new school year meant new adventures and one year closer to being “all grown up.”

Waubonsee Can Take You Places

I’ve always had a bit of wanderlust, but at some point – I don’t remember exactly when – I decided that I needed to travel more. Off I went to Mexico, Alaska, Canada, London, Greece, France, Switzerland. I hiked the entire Oregon coast with just a backpack, and spent three weeks photographing ghost towns in New Mexico and sleeping on the ground - wherever a comfortable spot could be found. I backpacked in the Rockies, Tetons and Cascades and visited almost every National Park. I’ve been to every state but two and every Canadian province.

Enjoy Free Artwork Year-Round at Waubonsee

Summer brings a wealth of opportunities for getting out and experiencing all the region has to offer. While concerts abound and carnivals beckon, some of our favorite summertime options can be found in the area’s parks and galleries, where works of local artists find an audience in public art fairs and shows.

Waubonsee Offers High School Students Ways to Get Ahead

Waubonsee seeks to meet the educational needs of district residents of all ages. In 2013, the college created its Center for High School Partnerships to better meet the needs of local high school districts and their students. Two of the center’s biggest programs are the High School Summer Program and the Dual Credit Program, which allow students to earn high school and/or college credit.

Student Trustee Thankful for Experiences, Excited for the Future

As the days until the Waubonsee commencement ceremony dwindle down, I catch myself looking back at how quickly my two years at the college have flown by.  One minute I am sitting on the couch working my way through the college’s Electronic Registration and Planning (E-RAP) tutorial, and the next I am writing my graduation speech and figuring out what shoes will look best with my graduation dress.

Volunteer Tutors Learn Their Own Lessons

Articles on adult literacy typically cite statistics like this, from the National Assessment of Adult Literacy: 45 percent of adults in the United States are English-language literate only at the basic level or below. The articles usually continue with examples of the many barriers limited literacy presents: barriers to education, employment, involvement in children’s education, and even to performing life’s most basic tasks, like driving, shopping or visiting the doctor.

Use Proper Etiquette to Land a Job

When you are conducting a job search, it’s important to know where to locate openings, but even more important is knowing how to act. The way you present yourself in writing, on the phone and in person will determine whether or not you get hired, so Waubonsee’s Career Services Department spends a lot of time helping job seekers learn the proper etiquette. Here is some advice that may help you land your next job.

Focus on Financial Aid This February

While we’re just over a month into a new calendar year, it’s already time for prospective and current college students to look ahead to the upcoming 2014-2015 academic year, especially if they want help paying tuition.

The Halls Are Alive With the Sound of Music

With Christmas songs on the radio, holiday concerts on television and performances of “The Nutcracker” on local stages, December is a very musical month. It’s no different at Waubonsee Community College. We just finished our end-of-semester concert season, with our Steel Band, Chorale, Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Rock Band all performing over the past few weeks.
