Waubonsee Biology Professor Wins Awards by Opening Opportunities for All STEM Students

Dr. Sheela Vemu, Associate Professor of Biology, was recently honored as the state’s 2024 Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA). This award recognizes faculty who are the heart and soul of Illinois' educational institutions.

Dr. Anthony Ramos Appointed Vice President of Talent and Culture/Chief Diversity Officer at Waubonsee Community College

At their June 18 meeting, the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees officially appointed Dr. Anthony Ramos, of Darien, as the college’s new Vice President of Talent and Culture/Chief Diversity Officer. He will officially assume the role on July 1.

Seven Waubonsee Students Advance to SkillsUSA Nationals

Thirty-four students from Waubonsee Community College traveled to Peoria and took part in the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference on April 24-26. Of those competing, several placed in the three top areas across several competitions, including CNC, Automotive Refinishing, Automotive Service Technology, Collision Repair, Diesel Equipment Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Sheet Metal. 

Waubonsee Students Secure Second Place at Mopar® Career Automotive Program (CAP) Bracket Challenge Finals

On April 25, four students from the Waubonsee Community College's Automotive Technology Program earned a spot to compete in the Mopar® Career Automotive Program (CAP) Bracket Challenge against SUNY Morrisville in Auburn Hills, MI. They secured second place in a fiercely contested national competition involving 100 schools.

Waubonsee’s Pink Graduate Makes History

Miriam Romero, of Chicago, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Waubonsee Community College Adult Education female student in custody at the Fox Valley Adult Transitional Center (ATC) to earn an Illinois High School diploma certificate. This achievement marks the first in over 50 years since the opening of the Fox Valley ATC, a minimum-security female facility, in Aurora in 1972.

Two Waubonsee Honors Program Graduates Receive Full-Tuition Scholarships to Area Colleges

Each year, Waubonsee Community College partners with Elmhurst University and North Central College to extend a full-tuition scholarship to an Honors Program Graduate. Through this collaboration, the colleges are extending full-tuition scholarships to Jack McGreevy and Lucie Jumonville.

Waubonsee Community College Announces 2024 Commencement Plans

Waubonsee Community College will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2024 with commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 11, at the college’s Sugar Grove Campus Field House. Ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and tickets are required.
