Adult Education

Welcome to the office for Adult Education at Aurora Campus.

If you are at least 16 years of age and not currently enrolled in school but looking to improve your life, Adult Education can help. We offer courses and programs that will help you

  • improve your basic skills
  • prepare for the high school equivalency exam (GED),
  • learn to speak, read, and write the English language
  • obtain the basic skills needed to move to a new or better job or to higher education.

Adult Education Programs
Adult Basic Education (ABE) - This program gives adults who did not graduate from high school an opportunity to improve their basic skills. Students from this program may eventually enroll in General Education Development (GED) preparation classes.

English as a Second Language (ESL) - This program offers non-native adults the opportunity to learn the English language while also learning about American culture. More concentrated language instruction is also offered through the Intensive English Institute (IEI).

Adult Literacy Volunteer Project - Waubonsee trains volunteers to teach English and reading skills to students and immigrants from more than 30 countries.

Adult Education Special Programs - This area includes the Youth Services Program, which provides free career training and job placement assistance for low-income youth, and the Vocational Skills Program, which provides free computer classes for currently enrolled GED and ESL students.

Adult Education Learning Center (AELC) - The center offers adult education students an opportunity to enhance their studies using computer-aided instruction.
