Black History Month celebrates the contributions that African Americans have made to American history in their struggles for freedom and equality and deepens our understanding of our Nation's history.
Women's History Month celebrates the contributions women have made to the United States and recognizes the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history.
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar. It will be observed through 5/1 or 5/2 (depends on the moon sighting). During Ramadan, Muslims focus on spiritual growth, connecting with loved ones, and giving back to the community.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - May
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed from May 1 through May 31, recognizes the contributions and influences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans in the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. These events will be celebrated a month before graduation to be more accessible to the Waubonsee community.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of enslaved people in the United States at the end of the Civil War.
The Latinx Heritage Month, Hispanic-Serving Institution’s week committee goal is to promote, celebrate, educate, and raise awareness about Latinx heritage and honor the impact and influence that Latinx culture has had on American society. Our celebrations take place each year between September 15 and October 15.
In the United States, Canada, and Australia, LGBTQ History Month is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day on 11 October and to commemorate the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBT rights.
The LGBTQ+ History Month committee's goal is to recognize the history, milestones and contributions the LGBTQ+ community has made in society. We hope through education and celebration, we are able to create new allies for the LGBTQ+ community.
November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.
At the Access Center, we’re proud that all our service arrangements are customized for the individual needs of each student. The specialists in our office are personally engaged with students and provide a variety of services and support to registered Access Students.
Waubonsee’s LRC is an identity based center that provides resources, support services, and educational experiences to support students’ academic and social success. We offer all students a place to belong and to learn more about Latinx cultures, heritage, and traditions.
The TRIO/SSS program provides intensive academic, career, financial literacy, tutoring and cultural outings, and motivates students to complete their degree. And since TRIO/Student Support Services is among the federally-funded TRIO programs, all services are provided at no cost.... which means participation is free!
