3.0 Semester HoursThis course provides an introduction to typographic history, study of letterforms, terms, classifications and typeface selection. Students explore type mechanics and aesthetics by using type in a variety of design applications. Students examine structure, layout, and information hierarchy, as well as the relationship of type to image and cultural context. Software includes: InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and font editing and font managing applications.
Prereq: GRD135 and GRD160; or concurrent enrollment.
