| ACADEMIC ADVISING AND PLANNING |

| ACADEMIC PROBATION |
At the end of each semester, students with
a grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 are placed on academic
probation. Students must meet with a counselor or advisor in
order to discuss their academic history before they can register
for the next semester. |

| APPOINTMENTS |
Appointments are required for transcript evaluation
or career counseling or interpretations. Appointments are recommended for all services but walk-ins are available. |
|
| ASSESSMENT |
All new full-time students must complete assessment
testing in English, reading, and math to determine appropriate
placement in classes. New full -time students will receive an
interpretation of their assessment scores at the required Registration
and Planning session. Any part-time student intending to enroll
in an English or math class must complete the appropriate assessment
testing then contact Counseling and Advising for an interpretation
of assessment scores. |

| CHOOSING A MAJOR |
Counselors offer many career
planning activities to help students explore their future
career options.
Waubonsee offers both transfer programs leading to baccalaureate degrees and occupational programs that prepare you for employment. |
|
| COLLEGE CREDIT FOR PRIOR EXPERIENCE |
Counselors and advisors can discuss the possibility
of applying for college credit from alternative sources toward
the completion of your Waubonsee degree.
Some of these sources may include:
- College credit earned at other institutions
- Valley Education for Employment Systems (VALEES)

- College level examination program (CLEP)
available through the assessment office.
- Armed Service Experience

| ILLINOIS ARTICULATION INITIATIVE
(IAI) |
Waubonsee Community College Participates in
the Illinois Articulation
Initiative (IAI), which eases the transfer process among
many Illinois colleges and universities. Discuss your transfer
plans with Counseling & Advising and the school to which
you plan to transfer. |

| PETITION TO GRADUATE |
Students must petition to graduate. It is
recommended that students petition one semester prior to graduation.

If you have completed the course work for a Certificate of Achievement, fill out and submit the Application for Certificate form to have it awarded and the documentation mailed to you. |

| REGISTRATION AND PLANNING
(RAP). |
A Registration and Planning (RAP) session
is required for all new first-time full time students. At the session students
register for classes and are provided with an overall orientation
to academic procedures and programs. Appointments can be made
by calling 630-466-7900 ext. 5756. |

| RETURNING ADULTS TRANSITION
ISSUES |
Returning adult students may need support
balancing home, work, and college. Counselors are available
to discuss problems and explore solutions. |
|
| TRANSFER INFORMATION |
It is never too early to beginning discussing
transfer requirements. Transfer information is available through Counseling. Each program should be individually planned
with a counselor. |
|
| TRANSFERRING CREDIT FROM OTHER
SCHOOLS |
Students who wish to transfer credit from
other schools must have an official copy of their transcripts
sent to the Office of Registration and Records. The student must complete a transcript evaluation request form. |

| TRANSCRIPT REQUEST |
Waubonsee Community College transcript requests
are processed through the Office of Registration and Records. |
|
| WITHDRAWING |
Students do not need a counselor or advisor’s
signature to withdraw from a course. However you are encouraged
to consult a counselor or advisor before you complete the paperwork. |
