Students, faculty and staff can report threatening behavior or persons of concern by completing the Waubonsee Intervention Form. This form may be completed anonymously. Call 911 when there is an immediate risk to life or property call 911. Call Campus Police at 630-466-5252 to report suspicious or threatening behavior.
Safety Tips
Do not walk alone. Walk with a friend or stay near a group of people.
Park and walk in well-lit areas.
Walk at a steady pace and make brief eye contact with the people around you. This shows confidence, which acts as a deterrent to attackers.
Be aware of your surroundings. Familiarize yourself with the locations of hallway telephones.
If you are ever being followed by a vehicle when you are walking, quickly turn around and walk in the opposite direction.
When returning to your car, be alert to anyone under or around your car and look inside before getting in.
Trust your intuition and act on it. If you feel uncomfortable, there is a reason for it.
If you see someone or something suspicious, let Campus Police know by calling (630) 466-2552 for Sugar Grove or (630) 906-4142 for Aurora. If you are away from the campus, call 9-1-1.
Severe Weather On Campus
What to do if you are inside:
Quickly and calmly go to the nearest designated Severe Weather Shelter. Do your best to notify others in your immediate area to do the same and assist persons with disabilities (ask for help from others as needed).
Look for shelter signs indicating safer locations on campus. You can also find shelter locations on floor plans posted throughout each building.
If you cannot reach a designated shelter, move to an interior hallway or room.
Stay away from windows, doors, and exterior walls.
Protect your head and neck with your arms.
Remain in the shelter area until an “all clear” is given by emergency or administrative personnel.
Access and Functional Needs:
Sheltering is recommended when there is significant danger to life or health. Reaching the safest place in a building provides the best protection.
If you are on the lowest level or able to take stairs, promptly follow directions to reach a designated Severe Weather Shelter.
If you cannot take stairs and are on an upper floor, shelter in an interior room on your floor away from windows.
Do not use elevators during severe weather, as power loss may occur and you could become trapped.
What to do if you are outside:
If you can safely reach a sturdy building, do so immediately.
If you cannot reach shelter and are outside or in a vehicle, protect your head and neck with your arms and cover yourself if possible.

All registered students are automatically enrolled in the system, using the contact information they have on file with the college.
In the event of an emergency, including a weather-related closing, the Waubonsee Alert System may be activated. This system allows the college to notify you about campus-related emergencies via email, text messages, and voice announcements to individual phones or other electronic devices.
System Usage
The system can only be activated by authorized college personnel and will be used in only two situations:
Clear, Present and Imminent Danger
The alert will be sent during any event that requires immediate action to safeguard your life and wellbeing. When you receive an alert message, please take action to ensure your safety if asked to do so.
Unexpected Campus Closures
The system will be used to notify you should any or all Waubonsee campuses be closed unexpectedly. This kind of alert would be sent, for example, if the college closed a campus because of severe weather. Such messages may not include complete information, due to messaging character limits and the nature of emergencies.
